Drinking Water Management Plan

Drinking Water Conservation

The Drinking Water Conservation Plan (DWCP) is in place to manage demand for our region’s drinking water during the summer months, and if required, during an emergency.

Metro Vancouver has developed a Residential Water Metering in Metro Vancouver: Best Practices Guide, that outlines the benefits of water metering and provides key considerations to support local government decision making on advancing water metering in each community.

Watershed Management Plans

Metro Vancouver developed a Water Use Plan for both the Capilano and Seymour water sources, which received Provincial approval in 2018. While prioritizing drinking water, it also considers fish populations and habitat and the potential for green energy production.

BC Hydro developed the Water Use Plan for the Coquitlam-Buntzen Facilities in 2005 and reports annually. Since 2005 the Coquitlam Dam was reconstructed (complete 2008) and the Kwikwetlem Salmon Restoration Program began to examine the potential to reintroduce salmon to Coquitlam Reservoir.
