Douglas Road Water MainDouglas Road Water Main<div class="ExternalClass254A0F0588D94819A457585A1534A146"><p>Metro Vancouver is constructing the new Douglas Road Water Main that will replace a section of the existing Douglas Road Water Main, which runs between North Burnaby and the City of New Westminster. This existing section of main was built in the 1940s and has reached the end of its service life. Construction of this new water main has been phased over several years due to the length of the water main, which is approximately 15 kilometres long. </p><p>This section, known as the Vancouver Heights Section, is one of the final phases for the Douglas Road Water Main Project. The Vancouver Heights Section is approximately 2 kilometres long and is located primarily along McGill Street, North Rosser Avenue and Albert Street. </p><p>When the entire Douglas Road Water Main Project is complete, the new main will help ensure the continued delivery of clean, safe drinking water to the City of Burnaby and other parts of the region well into the future. </p></div>City of Burnaby

Project Update

  • Holiday Construction Shutdown - posted on December 09, 2019

    ​With the holiday season upon us, crews are planning to shut down major construction activities for this project. No work will take place from December 22, 2019 to January 2, 2020.

    There will be temporary full road closures for the duration of the shutdown which will continue into the new year as construction progresses at the following locations:

    - Eton Street between North Madison Avenue and North Rosser Avenue

    - Rosser Avenue between Cambridge Avenue and Eton Street

    - Rosser Avenue between Albert Street and Pandora Street

    - McGill Street between North Carleton and North Madison Avenue (please see map below)

    There will be detour routes in place, please follow the directional signage on site. Residents will continue to have access to their properties during the shutdown.

    To ensure site safety during the shutdown; crews will secure construction equipment and machinery, lock fences and gates around work sites, and carry out regular safety checks.

<div class="ExternalClass191FB9BDBF864A408150DD385EA2725D"><p>Activities related to water main construction will include delivering equipment, steel pipe, gravel and other materials; cutting pavement; excavating a trench; installing the pipe; welding and coating the pipe joints; backfilling the trench and compacting gravel. </p><p>Equipment associated with these activities will include asphalt saws, excavators, large trucks, dewatering pumps, generators and compactors. Following construction, the sections of roadway impacted by construction will be paved and the affected areas nearby will be restored to similar or better condition.</p></div><div class="ExternalClass85FC9F07831B4990AD772850405ADE65"><p>There will be a temporary full road closure along Eton Street from North Madison Avenue to North Rosser Avenue in effect from summer 2019 until spring 2020. </p><p>There will be other road closures in effect during construction along the water main route. Residents will be notified of road closures in advance. Please follow the direction of traffic control personnel and detour route signs near the construction area. </p></div><div class="ExternalClassC1EEDDCFE56B46608FE8BB275311FEA8"><p>Monday to Friday – 7 AM to 8 PM </p><p>Saturdays – 9 AM to 8 PM </p></div>
