Biosolids come from liquid waste treated at municipal wastewater treatment
plants (WWTPs). All five Metro Vancouver plants use slightly different methods
to treat wastewater and produce biosolids.
At each WWTP, solids are
separated from the wastewater during primary or secondary treatment and then
further processed to break down the organic matter and eliminate pathogens
(disease-causing organisms).
