Managing Outdoor Sites
Parks are known as places for hiking, wildlife viewing, cycling or walking the dog. They restore the spirit and allow us to reconnect with nature. Natural ecosystems sustain the biological processes that filter our water, remove pollutants from the air and pollinate food plants. Maintaining our livable cities requires clean air and water and easy access to food and other critical resources. Looking after local ecosystems is part of the regional sustainability strategy.

Metro Vancouver Parks is implementing management strategies to support and improve the biodiversity of regional parks.

Left untended, these natural spaces would suffer the impacts of overuse. Community stewardship will make the difference for our parks over the long term. Community partners and volunteers are actively involved in the design and implementation of these strategies. One of the outcomes of good stewardship is species biodiversity.
  • Together, regional parks, park reserves and greenways make up more than 11,000 hectares of protected habitat for various species of bird and wildlife.
