Overview of Projects
The Gilbert Road Sewer is part of critical sewer infrastructure that moves wastewater from Richmond to the Lulu Island Wastewater Treatment Plant where it is safely treated. The existing sewer is operating near full capacity, making regular inspection and maintenance costly and highly disruptive to the community. Metro Vancouver is constructing a second sewer pipe to continue safely moving wastewater from the growing communities in Richmond.
Construction along Gilbert Road is occurring in multiple phases:

North Section – Elmbridge Way to Blundell Road
Complete

Central Section – Blundell Road to Steveston Highway
Spring 2023 – Winter 2025

South Section – Steveston Highway to the Lulu Island Wastewater Treatment Plant
Early 2023 – Fall 2024
Community Liaison
A Community Liaison has been assigned to meet with business owners, residents, and community members to discuss project impacts, compile public feedback, and be available to address any questions or concerns. Please see “Contacts” for ways to get in touch with the Community Liaison.
Residents will be notified well in advance of construction; we will be working with individual property owners to mitigate construction impacts as much as possible.
