The existing Douglas Road watermain, located between Vancouver Heights Pump Station in North Burnaby and Westburnco Pump Station in New Westminster, was built in the 1940s. This water main has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced.

Metro Vancouver is currently constructing a replacement water main, called Douglas Road Main No. 2. Due to the total length of the pipeline, the replacement work has been phased over several years. When the entire project is complete, the new Douglas Road Main No. 2 will help ensure the continued delivery of clean, safe drinking water to Burnaby and New Westminster residents and businesses, as well as other parts of the Lower Mainland.

Several phases of the new Douglas Road Main No. 2 are complete and construction will continue on remaining sections.
