Aboriginal Affairs

Metro Vancouver maintains an Aboriginal Affairs program, which supports staff and Metro Vancouver Board involvement on policies and projects related to aboriginal relations and treaty negotiations issues.

Since 1994, Metro Vancouver has been actively involved on the Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee (LMTAC), which is currently made up of 26 local government jurisdictions and provides input to the tri-partite (Federal, Provincial and First Nation governments) treaty negotiations as an advisor to the Government of BC.

Metro Vancouver's Aboriginal Relations Committee advises the GVRD Board on treaty negotiations as well as non-treaty aboriginal relations issues.

Mayor Ralph Drew (Village of Belcarra) is Metro Vancouver's representative and Chair of LMTAC.
