Treaty Negotiations
Since 1994, Metro Vancouver has been actively involved on the Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee (LMTAC), which is currently made up of 26 local government jurisdictions and provides input to the tri-partite (Federal, Provincial and First Nation governments) treaty negotiations as an advisor to the Government of BC. Mayor Ralph Drew (Village of Belcarra) is Metro Vancouver's representative and Chair of LMTAC.

On April 3, 2009, the Tsawwassen First Nation Final Agreement came into effect and became the first urban treaty in the province and the first to be reached under the BC Treaty Process. Tsawwassen is now a treaty First Nation member of Metro Vancouver.

Under the BC Treaty Commission's six-stage treaty process, the four remaining Lower Mainland treaty tables are currently in the following stages of negotiation:

 Katzie First Nation (Stage 4)

 Tsleil-Waututh Nation (Stage 4)

 Musqueam Indian Band (Stage 4)

 Squamish Nation (Stage 3)
