Regional Development
The Livable Region Strategic Plan (LRSP) is Greater Vancouver's regional growth strategy and was adopted by all member municipalities in 1996. The plan encompasses an area of more than 300,000 hectares in the Lower Mainland and includes 21 municipalities and Electoral Area A. The plan's primary task is to help maintain regional livability and protect the environment in the face of anticipated growth. In 2001, the population of the Vancouver region reached two million and, at current growth rates, is expected to reach 2.7 million by 2021.
