| Construction underway on South Surrey Interceptor | Construction underway on South Surrey Interceptor | <div class="ExternalClass15EA64B150EE4120A8BE082B4BF71078"><p style="text-align:left;">The South Surrey Interceptor, a pipe built in the early 1970s to collect and convey sewage from communities south of the Fraser to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, is getting an upgrade. </p><p style="text-align:left;">Significant growth in Delta, South Surrey, White Rock and Langley has necessitated adding a second pipe, about 10 kilometres long, beside the existing sewer pipe to increase the amount of wastewater that the system can carry. </p><p style="text-align:left;">About 7.5 kilometres of pipe have already been installed in the last 16 years, with the latest section of the project, known as the Johnston Road Section, involving 2.2 kilometres of pipe. This section is split into three phases and is being done through five construction contracts. </p><p style="text-align:left;">The current contract involves the installation of 623 metres of three-metre diameter, plastic-lined concrete pipe in a right-of-way through private and City of Surrey-owned properties. Construction started in the spring of 2017 and is expected to be completed by the end of the spring of 2018, depending on the weather conditions. </p><p>Work on the next contract will start in the spring of 2018.
