| National Zero Waste Council – milestones and an update for 2015 | National Zero Waste Council – milestones and an update for 2015 | <div class="ExternalClass6FB4873183F74226BE0BE2E5B0EE6FD4"><p>Founded by Metro Vancouver with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the National Zero Waste Council is a cross-sectoral waste prevention leadership initiative that was formally launched at the 2013 Metro Vancouver Zero Waste Conference. </p><p>Council membership now includes 61 organizations including metropolitan regions (Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax), associations (Retail Council of Canada, Packaging Association of Canada, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters), and individual businesses (London Drugs, Interface Floor). In addition the Council is engaged with over 100 small and large businesses (Walmart, Unilever, West Coast Reduction). </p><p>The Council produces information bulletins, and hosts webinars and round table discussions for members across the country. There are four working groups committed to these strategic projects; </p><p>Project Design and Packaging Working Group;
<em>Celebrating Canadian design for waste prevention</em>;
<em>Compostable packaging guide</em> </p><p>Circular Economy Working Group;
<em>Case studies demonstrating circular economy business and waste prevention benefits</em>;
<em>Tool kit for businesses</em> (on moving from a linear to circular economy);
<em>Circular economy roundtable creating a blueprint for circular business approaches</em> (workshop);
<em>Partnership with Small Business BC</em></p><p>Food Working Group;
<em>Business case for addressing food waste through tax incentives</em> (see article in this edition of the Chair Update)</p><p>National Communications Campaign Working Group;
<em>Communications campaign sharing platform</em>;
<em>Behaviour change municipal best practices guide</em></p><p>The National Zero Waste Council held their 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM) October 28, 2015, on the margins of Metro Vancouver’s Zero Waste Conference, with 63 participants. The AGM was opened by Council Chair Malcolm Brodie, followed by updates from the working group leaders, election of Board representatives and a working session on a five-year strategic plan for the Council. </p><p>This group is active, solutions oriented and if you are interested, consider getting involved.
