Project Overview

Diverting flows from Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows to the Northwest Langley Wastewater Treatment Plant requires two new sewer pipes. Two pipes will extend from the new pump station in Maple Ridge, under the Fraser River, to the treatment plant. The pipe alignments will run parallel to the Golden Ears Bridge. The crossing is being built using a construction method called horizontal directional drilling, which involves drilling a tunnel under the riverbed to reduce impacts to the river.

Work has been planned in consultation with Fraser River users and permitting agencies to minimize impacts to river activity and the river itself. Metro Vancouver is committed to minimizing the impacts of this project on the marine environment and surrounding habitat.

  Location: Maple Ridge and Langley

  • Temporary Haul Road Removal and Restoration Planting - North Of Airport Way - posted on April 05, 2023

With pipe installation now complete, the contractor is removing the temporary haul road in the project right of way north of Airport Way/113B Avenue to Hammond Road.

This work requires the use of excavators and dump trucks and other equipment to remove the temporary road. Haul road removal in this area is anticipated to be complete by the end of May with working hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Occasional weekend work may be required. During this time there will be an increase in construction activity in this area and nearby residents may experience a temporary increase in noise levels from equipment and materials movement, and the required use of back-up alarms.

Following haul road removal, restoration planting in the project right of way will take place. A variety of trees and vegetation that are local to the area will be planted. Restoration work in this area is anticipated to be complete in early summer 2023. Please note that haul road removal and restoration planting are weather dependent, and we will provide updates to our website should timelines change.
