NOTE: Vancouver Landfill facility tours are suspended for Fall 2022. Information regarding potential Spring 2023 tour offerings will be posted here in February 2023.

​Where does your garbage go? How does it get there? How can waste be reduced at home and at school?

 

On this engaging tour, students will explore onsite operations of the Recycling Depot, the Compost Facility, and the ‘active face’ of the Landfill. Students will also discover how landfill gas is used to make electricity and heat.

Location

The Vancouver Landfill is located at 5400 72nd Street Delta, B.C.

Cost

The Vancouver Landfill tours are provided at no-charge to those who meet the below requirements.

Requirements

  1. Tours are available to grade 4 to 12 classes
    • Classes arrive by bus and are joined by a Tour Leader for a driving tour of the site. Bus coordination and rental costs are the responsibility of the teacher.
    • Maximum class size is determined by the capacity of the bus.
  2. Tours are 60 to 90 minutes in duration
  3. Tours are offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the following times:
    • 10:00 am (ends by 12 noon)
    • 12:30 pm (ends by 2:30 pm)
  4. Tour participants agree to adhere to Facility Safety Requirements:
    • wear long pants and closed-toe shoes
    • adhere to all site specific safety instructions – provided by the Vancouver Landfill Tour Leader
