Alternative Approval Process

An Alternative Approval Process is another method of voting that enables electors to state their opposition to a proposition put forward by the Board. If more than 10% of electors express their opposition, the Board cannot proceed with the proposition. This is an alternative method to an election or referendum that may be used in certain cases to seek approval from electors.

At present, there is one Alternative Approval Process before the electorate:

Bylaw 1256

Metro Vancouver Regional District Disposition of Parkland within the Boundaries of the City of Abbotsford Bylaw No. 1256, 2018.  The purpose of the bylaw is disposition of all interests in parkland within the boundaries of the City of Abbotsford to the City of Abbotsford, with the exception of Aldergrove Regional Park. The total area of lands to be transferred is approximately 987 hectares. The bylaw adoption will also serve to facilitate the acknowledgment and withdrawal of the City of Abbotsford from the MVRD regional parks function.

Electors may indicate their opposition to a proposal by submitting the Elector Response form (above) to the Corporate Officer of Metro Vancouver within the prescribed period by no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018. It is the responsibility of the elector to ensure that the form is received by the Corporate Officer prior to the deadline. See the Elector Response Form for contact information and delivery instructions.
