Affordable Housing
Metro Vancouver Housing owns and operates housing sites in many Lower Mainland municipalities, providing housing for more than 10,000 people.
Does MVHC offer assistance with rent?

Yes, our mandate is to provide affordable rental housing on a non-profit basis. However, there are a limited number of units in the subsidy program. The Corporation portfolio consists of “rent-geared-to-income”, partial rent assistance, and low-end-of-market units. There are several different housing programs and each building falls under a specific program type. Some are federally funded programs while others receive funding from the provincial governments. Different rules and regulations govern each program. Specific information can be gained by calling the number listed below.
How is the rental assistance determined?

Although different rules and regulations govern each assistance program, generally assistance is provided if the rent does not exceed 30% percent of total gross household income or $400 whichever is greater. The $400 minimum rent is not applicable to seniors and people with disabilities.
Who is eligible?

All housing is provided on a first-come, first-served basis and is dependent on the individual or household need. MVHC provides housing for families, seniors and people with mental and/or physical disabilities.   Once an applicant(s) has been housed as an LEM tenant, they are not eligible to apply for rent assistance until the 1 year anniversary of their tenancy.

How do I apply?

Visit the Housing Registry. MVHC recently partnered with BC Housing and other Non-Profit organizations and set up a Housing Registry. The Housing Registry is a province-wide database of housing applicants who require subsidized housing. All vacant subsidized units in our portfolio are filled by pulling applicants from the Registry. Applicants are contacted and short-listed for vacant properties by their preferences and by the date of application.

If you think you will not require assistance with the rent or want to be considered for a low-end-of-market unit, fill out an application. If you are unsure of which category you fall into, you can either call the MVHC office, or simply fill out a MVHC application. Upon review of your application, it will be sorted to the proper program.
