Survey of Recycling Processors and Extended Producer Responsibility Programs

Metro Vancouver Transfer Station Recycling Services – Survey of Recycling Processors and Extended Producer Responsibility Programs

BACKGROUND

Metro Vancouver is undertaking an Assessment of the Regional Solid Waste System, to help plan for future upgrading and replacement of solid waste facilities, particularly transfer stations.

As part of the study, the following survey asks recycling processors and extended producer responsibility programs about the role of public regional solid waste facilities in the management of recyclable materials. Regional solid waste facilities include Metro Vancouver’s North Shore Transfer Station, Coquitlam Transfer Station, Surrey Transfer Station, Maple Ridge Transfer Station, Langley Transfer Station and the Waste-to-Energy Facility, as well as the City of Vancouver’s Vancouver South Transfer Station and Vancouver Landfill. The location of these facilities is shown in the below map.

Survey results will support operational capacity modelling of the regional solid waste system and help plan for the upgrading and replacement of current facilities. Individual responses will be collated and generalized to provide perspectives of recycling processors and extended producer responsibility programs.

The survey will be open until October 2, 2020.

Note: The regional solid waste system may be affected by COVID-19 at this time. Since this survey is intended to assess the recycling system under “normal” conditions, when responding to this survey, please be thinking in terms of a pre-COVID-19 situation.
