What We Do
Metro Vancouver is responsible for disposing of the waste generated by residents and businesses in the region. In addition to operating regional recycling and waste centres and a waste-to-energy facility, Metro Vancouver’s Solid Waste Services is responsible for long term planning for reducing waste, and improving reuse and recycling systems.
Solid Waste Management Plan
Metro Vancouver’s sustainability principles provide guidance for the regional solid waste plan, which was approved by the Province in 2011. Goals include reducing the waste we each generate, and aspiring to recycle 80% of the region’s waste.
Bylaws & Regulations
Solid Waste Services implements bylaws and regulations to better manage waste within our system, improve recycling, and to protect public health and the environment. These include regulations such as disposal bans and tipping fees.
National Zero Waste Council
A cross-sector leadership initiative bringing together governments, businesses, and non-government organizations to advance a national waste prevention and reduction agenda in Canada.
