Winston Street Sewer ProjectWinston Street Sewer Project<div class="ExternalClassD5B250786B084833AEEBF5CFA1A020F7"><p>The Winston Street Sewer carries wastewater from the City of Burnaby to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in the City of Delta. In order to accommodate future growth in the City of Burnaby, and to ensure continued protection of public health and the environment, this sewer pipe needs to be replaced with a new, larger pipe. It will be approximately 3.2 kilometers long and will be installed by open trench and tunneling methods (see map for project location). </p><p>Crews will begin trench construction for Phase 1 of the project, extending from Lougheed Highway to south of Greenwood Street, in late Spring 2020. Construction of Phase 2, using tunneling methods, is anticipated to begin in Spring 2021. Project Update

  • Sewer Construction Starting - posted on June 01, 2020

    In mid-June, Metro Vancouver will begin constructing Phase 1 of the Winston Street Sewer Project, extending from south of Greenwood Street to Lougheed Highway (see map below). Construction of this phase of the project will last approximately 15 months.

    Upcoming Traffic Impacts

    June 1

    Starting June 1, 2020 for approximately two weeks, there may be intermittent weekday delays along Winston St from Lougheed Highway to just south of Greenwood Steet as crews conduct survey work and site preparations.

    June 15

    Crews will begin excavation work on Winston Street in mid-June, just south of Greenwood Street. For approximately 6 weeks, northbound and southbound traffic near the work area will be reduced to a single lane in alternating directions during daytime hours. In the evenings, two-way traffic will be restored. See map for details.

Metro Vancouver follows the guidance of the Provincial Health Officer and is taking all necessary measures to ensure our worksites remain safe and healthy.

Bike detours and parking restrictions may be in effect near the work zone. Residents and businesses will be notified in advance about specific traffic impacts as the project progresses. </p><p>Motorists and cyclists are advised to use alternate routes and follow the direction of signage and traffic control personnel.</p> </div><div class="ExternalClass4D4B957504014FECB65428941EED903C"><p>Work will generally occur from Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. There may be occasions when crews will be required to work outside of these hours to complete specific tasks and/or to stay on schedule.</p><p> All work will comply with City of Burnaby bylaws or granted bylaw variances. </p></div><div class="ExternalClass452F7AFAF701463E8E06EC99D4BBC650"><p>A Community Liaison has been assigned to meet with business owners, residents, and community members to discuss the project impacts, compile public feedback, and be available by phone to address any questions or concerns. </p></div>
