North Road SewerNorth Road Sewer<div class="ExternalClass3FF914B54E564BB3954F26A8E4306DCB"><p>​The North Road Sewer pipe collects sewage from the Cities of Burnaby and Coquitlam, and carries it to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in the City of Delta. To ensure wastewater continues to be managed safely and to accommodate regional growth, upgrades to the North Road Sewer pipe are necessary.<br></p><p>Construction will take place in multiple phases. The first phase of the project, extending from Hume Park Road to Gatineau Place is expected to begin in September 2019 and will continue for approximately 9 months.  <br></p> </div>North Road, north of Lougheed Highway to Hume Park Road

Project Update


  • CONSTRUCTION WRAPPING UP - posted on May 25, 2020

    ​Construction of the North Road Sewer along North Road, between Hume Park Road and Gatineau Place is nearing completion.

    Crews will be returning intermittently to the area to complete closing project activities including paving and restoration work into late spring 2020.

    All drivers travelling in the area are asked to reduce speed and follow directions of signage and traffic control personnel. Please use extra caution near pedestrian areas. 

    Thank you for your patience and understanding during construction of this essential infrastructure project in your neighbourhood. 


  • COVID-19 AND DELIVERY OF ESSENTIAL SERVICES - posted on April 17, 2020

    ​Metro Vancouver continues to closely monitor developments regarding COVID-19 and our paramount commitment is to maintain essential services to the region while protecting the health and safety of our employees and partners. Metro Vancouver's construction projects are key components in ensuring the ongoing delivery of essential services as defined by the Province of BC. Metro Vancouver follows the guidance of the Provincial Health Officer and is taking all necessary measures to ensure our worksites remain safe and healthy.


 

 

<div class="ExternalClass1313048226384D3B840A812AB6BFFAF7"><p>Starting September 2019, activities associated with this project will include:</p><ul><li>Trucks delivering materials <br></li><li>Storing materials and equipment<br></li><li>Cutting pavement<br></li><li>Digging up one lane of roadway and preparing the trench for pipe installation<br></li><li>Use of an excavator or vacuum truck to dig small holes in the ground <br></li><li>Backfilling, repaving the trench and surface restoration<br></li></ul><p><br></p></div><div class="ExternalClassEFCEFB0BAB114BAFBAAA1EAE1CC215F8"><p>Metro Vancouver will actively monitor traffic flows and activity in the project area throughout construction. During this work there will be: </p><div class="ExternalClass829F66DFD77D4822A79C397BF342F8B8"><ul><li>Temporary road closures and traffic delays</li><li>Temporary property access restrictions (alternate access points will be provided and advance notice will be given)<br></li><li>Increased truck traffic on nearby roads<br></li><li>Temporary sidewalk restrictions along North Road between Hume Park Road and the intersection of North Road and just north of Lougheed Highway<br></li></ul><div><br></div><div>Please follow the direction of signage and traffic control personnel. <br></div></div></div><div class="ExternalClass0A1D637DEEBA4B7295A647F8540A20B4"><p>Work will occur from Monday to Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Saturday's between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. To avoid significant impacts to traffic along Lougheed Highway, night work will occur between the T-intersection (where Rochester Street meets North Road) and 110m north of Lougheed Highway. </p><p>Crews will make efforts to complete the work in a timely manner and reduce impacts to local residents and businesses. There may be times when crews will be required to work extended hours to complete specific tasks and stay on schedule. <br></p></div><div class="ExternalClass74F378665E9546F59580AAF93F0B1EF2"><p>​Metro Vancouver is committed to minimzing the impacts of construction on the community. Local residents and businesses will receive ongoing notification about the project through newsletters, web updates, email and on-site signage. <br></p><p>On July 24, 2019 Metro Vancouver invited residents to learn more about the North Road Sewer Upgrade project at an event held at the Hannam Supermarket in Burnaby.
