Douglas Road SewerDouglas Road Sewer<div class="ExternalClass1975B2CC6F6C41B5A425E388451BCFAC"><p>To accommodate future growth in the City of Burnaby, and ensure continued protection of public health and the environment, Metro Vancouver is building a new sewer along Douglas Road and Halifax Street, from Boundary Road to Willingdon Avenue. The Douglas Road Sewer will supplement the existing sewer system in the City of Burnaby and help convey wastewater towards the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant in Richmond. It will be approximately two kilometers long and will be installed by tunnelling and open cut methods.</p><p>Construction will begin in fall 2018 and will last approximately 18 months.</p> </div>Douglas Road and Halifax Street, from Boundary Road to Willingdon Avenue, City of Burnaby

Project Update


    ​Metro Vancouver has now completed construction of the new Douglas Road Sewer along Douglas Road and Halifax Street in the City of Burnaby. 

    The new, larger pipe that is now in place will help ensure that wastewater continues to be safely and reliably managed in the City of Burnaby and throughout our growing region.

<div class="ExternalClassF1DB1B0F79424DA7B4678F80E66E8C0F"><p>​Construction activities for the Douglas Road Sewer Upgrade project include:</p><ul><li>Trucks delivering equipment and materials<br></li><li>Storing materials and equipment<br></li><li>Cutting pavement</li><li>Digging trenches</li><li>Installing and connecting pipes together<br></li><li>Paving, backfilling and restoration<br></li></ul></div><div class="ExternalClassB640D7C91C2D46ECBAC2F6BA548CCAC7"><p>​There will be temporary road closures, delays, detours and traffic pattern changes in effect during construction. Residents and businesses will be notified in advance. Please follow the direction of traffic control personnel and signage near the construction areas.<br></p><p>Metro Vancouver will actively monitor and manage traffic activity in the project area throughout construction. <br></p></div><div class="ExternalClass0C8A951FC599447C9E18653B53EF05DD"><p>Work hours and associated noise will generally occur Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday's between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. There may be times when crews will be required to work extended hours to complete certain tasks. </p><p>All work will comply with City of Burnaby noise bylaw hours or granted bylaw variances.
