- Most eligible chargers cost $4000 - $5000, although the range is as low as $3000 and as high as $6500.
- Installation costs vary widely and depend on the electrical work required (distance, panel capacity, need to trench or cut through walls/concrete, etc.). Generally, the closer the stall to available power supply, the cheaper the installation.
- A good rule of thumb is $10,000 per stall total. This cost can drop significantly if multiple chargers are placed in adjacent stalls. Incentives reduce costs by up to $4000 per unit, to a maximum of 75% of costs.
- Additional features will add extra costs such as rain shelter, lock boxes, advanced software, etc.
At current BC Hydro rates, a day's charge will cost on the order of $1.50. If the station is fully utilized, budget $50/month for electricity costs.
Most units require only basic wiping as they are built to withstand outdoor elements. Units need to be replaced if damaged, so budget $250 per year per unit maximum for unforeseen maintenance costs. To date, charging station hosts have not experienced any significant vandalism.

"Grid aware" chargers collect information on usage and send information to a network. These optional services are typically on the order of $30/month.

What does EVSE mean?
Electric vehicle supply equipment. This is the common acronym for electric vehicle charging equipment.
What are Level 2 Chargers?
The aim of public Level 2 (220 volt) chargers is to provide charging while "at work" and "on-the-go". Level 2 chargers require 4 to 6 hours to fully charge an electric vehicle's battery, but can provide a "top-up" within 1 to 2 hours (e.g., 20-40 kms).
Can I charge for the electricity?
No. The law prohibits businesses from reselling electricity provided by BC Hydro; however, you may charge a rate for use of the stall to help recover costs.
Do I need a specialty installer or electrical engineer to install this product?
No. Most electricians and electric contractors will be able to complete an installation. The equipment is a standard 220V and comes with installation instructions, similar to any appliance. Some civil engineering may be required to prepare the site for installation.
