Making her dreams come true, she was recently invited by Gordon Lightfoot himself to join The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame debut concert series “If You Could Read My Mind” on February 4th. The concert featured Canadian song writing legends Gordon Lightfoot and Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip – along with MacLellan taking the newcomer slot. MacLellan derives her talent as a singer/songwriter from a natural source: her father, Gene MacLellan, is a Canadian music legend and author of such songs as “Snowbird,” a huge international hit for Anne Murray; and “Put Your Hand in the Hand,” which has been recorded by Elvis Presley, Joan Baez, Donny Hathaway and Loretta Lynn, among many others. Lucy Nigiyok is known for her exceptional hand sewn creations. Lucy has also been involved in printmaking for over 20 years. She does not own a sewing machine, favouring hand sewing, as her ancestors before her did. Justin Wanderingspirit comes from a family of artists. When he is not working, he spends his time carving. Completely self-taught, Justin also teaches workshops on how to carve. Richard Andrew is an artist and craftsman specializing in woodwork, carving, drum making, snowshoe making and traditional fine crafts. Richard has been involved in the arts for over twenty-five years and continues to be inspired by the people around him. Phoebe Punch creates natural baskets, and other traditional crafts. She is passionate about sharing and passing along her knowledge to new generations. From sorting, washing and dyeing quills for her quillwork, to gathering birch from the land and drafting and sketching new patterns, Phoebe enjoys every moment – sometimes so much she finds it hard to let go of her work! This is a good time to spot migrating birds in the water and the forest. Enjoy views over Addington and Minnekhada marshes. This is a moderately strenuous hike with hills and natural rock stairs.
