Lougheed Highway Sewer ProjectLougheed Highway Sewer Project

The project is part of a multi-year sewer upgrade program to accommodate rapid growth along the Millennium Line, including Brentwood Town Center, and to ensure that our regional sanitary sewer system meets the future needs of our growing region. The Hastings Sanitary Trunk Sewer, which flows through Vancouver to the Iona Island Waste Water Treatment Plant, is also being twinned to accommodate this growth.

Metro Vancouver works closely with our member municipalities to maintain local access when large construction projects are underway, including providing advance notification to affected commuters, residents and businesses should temporary access restrictions be required. Because of the Lougheed Highway's high traffic volumes of vehicles and bicycles, Metro Vancouver staff worked extensively with the City of Burnaby to design a traffic management plan to minimize traffic disruption. Opportunities for public input will continue throughout this project.

We do not anticipate any major environmental impacts from this construction project, however, an environmental consultant has been engaged to develop an environmental plan and the site will be continuously monitored for environmental impacts.

http://www.metrovancouver.org/metroupdate/PublishingImages/SewerHeat-970.jpg2015-02-26T08:00:00ZGP0|#52401d1f-e9cf-4238-83ee-d36a1e035119;L0|#052401d1f-e9cf-4238-83ee-d36a1e035119|Issue 6;GTSet|#d14ffe11-45dc-48fb-8684-ff109cf15a74

Phase One construction on the new Lougheed Highway Sewer Project is underway in north-central Burnaby along Lougheed Highway. The new sewer will roughly parallel an existing sewer called the Burnaby Lake North Interceptor which serves central Burnaby. Both sewers flow through Burnaby and New Westminster before going to the Annacis Island Waste Water Treatment Plant in Delta.
