Youth provide input on Climate 2050 strategyYouth provide input on Climate 2050 strategy<div class="ExternalClassBC15D920435A4EFFB68CF5A5F058DA70"><p>​Metro Vancouver youth offered their insight this month into how to achieve the Climate 2050 vision for a resilient, low carbon future, with calls for denser and transit-oriented town centres and increased measures to create a zero waste society.</p><p>More than 70 youth – aged 14 to 35 – participated on June 2 in a youth-focused engagement forum on the region’s Climate 2050 Strategy, which is intended to guide action across Metro Vancouver to reduce carbon emissions and prepare for the unavoidable effects of global warming. </p><p>The focused engagement at this forum allowed youth to provide their specific perspective and expertise to inform the goals and actions of the Climate 2050 strategy. Some, like Shatki Rumkumar, a fourth-year geography student at UBC, also expressed interest in becoming more involved as the strategy evolves.</p><p>“We need to keep involving youth in the policy-making process, and really co-create with young people,” said Rumkumar, a campus climate sustainability leader and past participant of Metro Vancouver’s Youth4Action program. “I think everything we discuss today can have a tangible impact.”</p><p>As part of a series of regional Climate 2050 dialogues, municipal and local non-government organizations are co-presenting on local climate actions. Metro Vancouver continues to seek feedback through the <a href="/climate2050" target="_blank">Climate 2050 website</a> and social media platforms. Engagement on the Climate 2050 Discussion Paper will wrap up on June 30.
