January 2017 Transfer Stations changesJanuary 2017 Transfer Stations changes<div class="ExternalClass9300B8D652864731BF8C745F5B216C15"><p>This January, some changes are taking place at Metro Vancouver transfer stations to improve services and value for residents and help our region reach our goal of an 80% recycling rate. </p><p> <strong>What is changing?</strong></p><p>Some of the changes for 2017 include an enhanced website, an increase in the number of materials accepted for recycling and disposal, and weigh scale automation for commercial customers. </p><p> <em>New hours for all the Transfer Stations are shown below, and will begin as of January 2, 2017.</em></p><p style="font-size:0.9em;"> <img src="/Includes/ChairUpdate/images/issue51-ts-times.JPG" alt="" style="width:640px;" /> <br> *Closed December 25 and January 1<br> **Recycling Drop-off areas at North Shore and Coquitlam Transfer Stations open at 8am, Monday-Friday </p><p>Other changes include:</p><p> <em>Effective January 1, 2017:</em></p><ul><li><p>Surcharge for Banned Hazardous and Product Stewardship Materials increasing to $65.</p></li><li><p>Capacity to waive fees for volunteer community clean-up projects on public lands.</p></li></ul><p> <em>Effective July 1, 2017:</em></p><ul><li><p>Organics Disposal Ban surcharge threshold decreasing from 25% to 5%.</p></li><li><p>Clean Wood Disposal Ban surcharge threshold decreasing from 10% to 5%. </p></li><li><p>Removal of disposal ban exemption on wax paper and cardboard. Wax paper and wax cardboard can be composted, and such as are now banned form the garbage like other papers.</p></li><li><p>New surcharge for unsecured loads arriving at transfer stations, to encourage customers to secure their load to keep our roads clean and safe. </p></li></ul><p> <strong>What is staying the same?</strong></p><p>The per-tonne tipping fees are not changing. Dropping off garbage at a transfer station will cost $80 - $133 per tonne depending on the total weight of the load, with larger loads paying a lower per-tonne fee. The minimum fee will remain at $15 (except $25 during peak hours at certain transfer stations).
