The site is the future home of a new pump station that will accommodate the needs of our growing region and help to keep our waterways clean. When complete, the pump station will ensure that wastewater from Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody is conveyed to Annacis Island for treatment. The project will also provide public washrooms, green space and ecological enhancements.

Work has started on the pump station, but cleaning up an old industrial site is hard work. The riverfront site was home to several industries over the last 100+ years, including a sawmill and a cannery. Over 3,000 tonnes of contaminated soil were removed this past fall. Much of the site will be cleaned up to residential standards, ensuring that the site will be safe for public use.

Please see the September 2015 Metro Vancouver Update for more information.

|#b009e37c-8145-4c7a-9df2-56f99def4f75;L0|#0b009e37c-8145-4c7a-9df2-56f99def4f75|Issue 26;GTSet|#d14ffe11-45dc-48fb-8684-ff109cf15a74

‚ÄčA few years from now you might ride your bike down to Sapperton Landing and marvel at the clever way this piece of land is used.
