Welcome!http://www.metrovancouver.org/metroupdate/issue-51/703/Welcome!Welcome!

Spring is finally here! In this issue, we highlight several interesting projects on the go, including using eDNA to find rare species such as red-legged frogs in our regional parks.

We're also moving ahead with the Second Narrows Water Supply Tunnel between Burnaby and North Vancouver, and expanding the Sperling Pump Station to provide additional capacity to accommodate future growth in the City of Burnaby.

We're recovering non-ferrous metals like aluminum and copper from our Waste-to-Energy Facility and developing a Sustainable Infrastructure and Buildings Design Guide for new buildings across the region. And starting this month, we'll be accepting applications for our 2019 regional culture grants program.

Our third annual Unflushables campaign launches on April 1 and we will once again be encouraging residents not to flush items such as wipes, hair and paper towels down the drain as these can cause costly clogs in our sewer system. Throw these items in the trash and not the toilet.

For some great insight on our work, check out our Metro Vancouver videos this month as we highlight work being done at the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, using a Carousel Water Sampler to test water in the ocean and a wetland walk along Surrey's Nicomekl River.

Enjoy!

Metro Vancouver is a federation of 21 municipalities, one Electoral Area and one Treaty First Nation that collaboratively plans for and delivers regional-scale services. Its core services are drinking water, wastewater treatment and solid waste management. Metro Vancouver also regulates air quality, plans for urban growth, manages a regional parks system and provides affordable housing.

Read more...Welcome0 0
