Welcomehttp://www.metrovancouver.org/metroupdate/issue-44/616/WelcomeWelcome

It's heating up in Metro Vancouver and across B.C., which is likely to pose increased risks for wildfires and air quality advisories, similar to what happened last summer. But despite heavy smoke days in 2017, Our Caring for the Air report, released this month, shows our air quality is still very good and improving, thanks to measures we continue to take to address smog-forming pollutants across the region.

We're also tackling other issues with our annual testing of bacteria levels in the region's swimming and selected non-swimming beaches and increasing the number of collection depots for dog poop in Regional Parks. In Grouse Mountain Regional Park, meanwhile, we will undertake an erosion management project this summer to mitigate the impact of potential debris flows around Mackay and Grouse creeks.

But we can't do it alone. Metro Vancouver and the City of Surrey have begun engaging with the public on a new recycling and solid waste drop-off facility for small loads in Surrey, while Metro Vancouver held a youth-focused engagement forum to get insight from youth on our Climate 2050 strategy.

Other works Metro Vancouver is doing is highlighted in our selection of videos, which includes updates on the Coquitlam Transfer Station and Northwest Langley Wastewater Treatment Plant, as well as the Still Creek Bridge replacement, how we measure greenhouse gas emissions, Environment week in Burnaby and farmland matching in Surrey.

Happy Canada Day!

Metro Vancouver is a federation of 21 municipalities, one Electoral Area and one Treaty First Nation that collaboratively plans for and delivers regional-scale services. Its core services are drinking water, wastewater treatment and solid waste management. Metro Vancouver also regulates air quality, plans for urban growth, manages a regional parks system and provides affordable housing.

Read more...Welcome0 0
