Welcomehttp://www.metrovancouver.org/metroupdate/issue-41/584/WelcomeWelcome

Spring is finally in the air and with it we are forging ahead with projects to boost air quality and improve the conditions of our regional parks as people look to spend more time outdoors. For instance, we are continuing with initiatives to boost interest in electric vehicles across the region, while volunteers with the Pacific Spirit Park Society are working with our parks staff to restore Acadia Forest.

Meanwhile, the Greater Vancouver Sewage and Drainage District operations staff have come up with a new method to repair sewer breaks while we are mulling over options to reduce textile waste in the region. We are also launching our annual campaign to remind residents not to throw those "unflushables" – such as grease, hairballs and paper towels – down the drain because of the damage it causes to our sewers.

And don't forget: With Easter coming up, don't waste those leftovers or toss those wrinkly vegetables. Check out our Love Food Hate Waste campaign where local chefs and food experts will answer your questions on how to reuse or turn food waste into tantalizing treats or meals.

We also have some great videos on what's happening around the region, including Coquitlam's affordable housing efforts, recycling in New Westminster and outdoor workshops for students in Surrey.

Metro Vancouver is a federation of 21 municipalities, one Electoral Area and one Treaty First Nation that collaboratively plans for and delivers regional-scale services. Its core services are drinking water, wastewater treatment and solid waste management. Metro Vancouver also regulates air quality, plans for urban growth, manages a regional parks system and provides affordable housing.

Read more...Welcome0 0
