Welcomehttp://www.metrovancouver.org/metroupdate/issue-38/549/WelcomeWelcome

Welcome to our December Update – the last of 2017. It's been a busy few weeks wrapping up important business before we head into the holiday season.

One of the significant milestones on our to-do list was reaching an agreement with the City of Abbotsford to amend parkland interests regarding our regional parks in that city. We believe this deal will bode well for the citizens of the City of Abbotsford, FVRD and MVRD, as it will allow us to put more money into new park acquisitions and upgrade others, including Aldergrove Regional Park, which is slated to be spruced up with family-friendly features.

In other business, we held a workshop on a pilot we are conducting on Canada's first National Industrial Symbiosis Program, have taken steps to encourage more affordable rental housing near transit stops and approved a new Generator Levy and Commercial Hauler Licensing that is designed to ensure all waste generators in the region contribute to the costs of the region's transfer station network.

We're supporting the Coffee Cup Revolution, which raises awareness on reducing the use of disposable cups, and are ramping up our Christmas campaign. So when you're trying to find that perfect gift, remember: Create Memories Not Garbage.

Happy holidays!

Metro Vancouver is a federation of 21 municipalities, one Electoral Area and one Treaty First Nation that collaboratively plans for and delivers regional-scale services. Its core services are drinking water, wastewater treatment and solid waste management. Metro Vancouver also regulates air quality, plans for urban growth, manages a regional parks system and provides affordable housing.

Read more...Welcome0 0
