Metro Vancouver comprises 22 municipalities, one electoral area, and one treaty First Nation.
Through Metro Vancouver, each representative has a say in how the region is run. The GVRD, GVWD and GVSDD Boards of Directors comprise mayors, councillors, electoral area director, and Chief from the federation on a “representation by population” basis.
Metro Vancouver is committed to:
- delivering essential utility services, such as drinking water, sewage treatment, recycling and garbage disposal, economically and effectively on a regional basis,
- maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in our region by managing and planning growth and development and protecting air quality and green spaces.

SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION – a program of achievement of sustainability targets and measures in the critical areas of Metro Vancouver’s responsibilities supported by sustainability focused decision making mechanisms and documentation of success stories,
INTEGRATED SYSTEM OF MANAGEMENT PLANS – the suite of sustainability based management plans,
COLLABORATIVE GOVERNANCE OUTREACH PROGRAM – a communications, education and engagement campaign to inspire public involvement in the achievement of a sustainable region.
